Writer's Update

It's been over a year now that The El Morro Connection has been published. It has had some strong runs and some slow ones. The really tough part is promoting your books. It requires time (and professional help really,) to do that and to do it right. The problem with a lot of the agents is once they have connected with one of the big names, they don't want to 'waste' time with anyone else. Trust me, they won't and they don't... Especially for a rookie. John Grisham once said "Writing books is the easy part, selling them is the hard part..." Getting your name and your work out there and known basically falls on you. I'm really hoping that if you read about the book on my blog here, that I'll have sparked just enough curiosity to get you to buy the book and find out for your self. Action/Thrillers are a very popular genre and there are some fantastic authors out there writing some very exciting books. There are also some great up and comers out there publishing some really good books. What can I say, it's a tough business. If you've written a good book, you have to hang tough and never give up. Believe me, The El Morro Connection is a good book an there are more coming.

I've been invited to the annual Celebration of Reading event sponsored by the Barbara Bush Foundation for Family Literacy. Jim Mulva, the CEO of Conoco Phillips was kind enough to provide my wife and I tickets to the event. I met with Jim last September and we talked about the book, authors and reading. Jim is an interesting and brilliant man and I really enjoyed getting to meet him. I am eagerly looking forward to going to the Celebration of Reading and hearing some of the best writers read from their work. If I'm lucky, I'll post some photos from the event. Can you imagine a photo of me with Presidents 41 1nd 43?... Who knows, someday even I might be invited to read there...
